TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) and PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration) are minimally invasive sperm-retrieval techniques used for men who are unable to release sperm naturally. These procedures are commonly recommended in cases such as azoospermia, previous infections, blocked reproductive ducts, failed vasectomy reversal, or situations where sperm is not present in the ejaculate but can still be collected directly from the testes or epididymis.
As a fertility specialist treating couples with complex male-factor issues, Dr Manmeet Batra offers safe, well-monitored and evidence-based TESA and PESA treatment to help you achieve a successful IVF or ICSI cycle.
What Are TESA and PESA?
TESA – Testicular Sperm Aspiration
TESA is performed when sperm needs to be retrieved directly from the testicular tissue using a fine needle. It is a simple, quick procedure done under local anaesthesia and is especially helpful in cases of non-obstructive azoospermia or poor sperm production.
PESA – Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration
PESA is performed when sperm are present in the epididymis but cannot be released naturally due to a blockage or obstruction. A fine needle is used to collect sperm gently and safely, usually under local anaesthesia. It is commonly recommended for men with obstructive azoospermia, previous vasectomy, or congenital absence of the vas deferens.
How the Procedure Works
When you visit for a consultation, you undergo a complete evaluation, including semen analysis, hormone profile and relevant imaging. After identifying the underlying cause, the most suitable TESA/ PESA treatment is selected for you.
On the day of the procedure:
The entire process is quick, safe and performed with utmost precision.
